Plantar fasciitis

Nowadays, in the world of sports, in which Clínica Mayral – foot center works daily, we find a very specific foot disorder, plantar fasciitis.

What is plantar fasciitis?

We define plantar fasciitis as an inflammation of the plantar fascia, fibrous fascia that goes from the heel bone to the fingers.

Under special stress conditions, such as jumping, running, carrying excessive body weight, etc., an excessive tension arises in this fascia, creating local and perilocal inflammation, which ultimately develops the wound and/or fracture.

The next issue that develops is the rigidity of the tissue and the formation of exostosis, which is the calcification of the fascia at its junction point. This latter process is known as calcaneal spur or plantar fasciitis.
