Achilles tendonitis or Achilles tendinopathy is the inflammation and/or degeneration of the Achilles tendon and the components of the insertion organ in the calcaneus of the Achilles tendon.
It is a fundamental tendon for walking, it is the largest and strongest tendon in the human body.
There are several causes that can lead to Achilles tendonitis, the most common of which are due to poor function of the posterior musculature. We must remember that the Achilles tendon is formed by the gastrocnemius, soleus and thin plantar muscles.
Treatment at CLÍNICA MAYRAL – foot center ranges from ultrasound-guided infiltrations, painless percutaneous intratissue electrolysis to biological and regenerative ultrasound-guided therapies such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), hydrodissection and volumetric ultrasound-guided infiltrations.
We can divide Achilles tendinopathy into: middle third or insertional tendinopathies.
Middle third:paratendinous or degenerative of the tendon body.
Insertional: Hanglund or Achilles spurs (insertional calcification).
Each tendinopathy is treated according to the time of evolution plus the social, occupational or sporting activity of the patient. Each patient undergoes a diagnostic imaging study (radiological and ultrasound) to ensure a personalised therapeutic indication.
Today CLINICA MAYRAL – foot center incorporates, if necessary, ultrasound-guided surgery. Incisions of 1-2 mm facilitate immediate recovery, helping the patient to return to work and sport in a shorter period of time.
